The Story Behind Modern Sonic:
Dr.Robotnik polluted Mobius so much that Sonic accidentally tripped into a pool of toxic waste when he was going fast and all of his body parts became deformed. It also caused him some brain damage. Sonic spreaded it to everyone else around him overtime (Even Robotnik) and they all became mutants with brain damage. Luckily, some managed to escape from the cancer such as Nack the Weasel, Bean the Dynamite, Bark the Polar Bear, Mighty the Armadillo, and Ray the Flying Squirrel.

Nack the Weasel, Bean the Dynamite, Bark the Polar Bear, Mighty the Armadillo, and Ray the Flying Squirrel, who are not in Sonic games anymore.
